Getting Started
Once you are added as a user to Signal, you will receive an email with instructions on how to access the application.
Registration Link Steps
If you are sent a registration link, click on the link to navigate to the Registration Page.
1. Enter your Full Name
2. Enter a Username
3. Enter your E-mail address
4. Create a Password that is 8+ characters long
5. Click the box next to “I agree to the Terms of Service”
6. Click on the “Register” button
Reset Password Steps
You may receive an email with a username and a temporary password. Click on the link to navigate to the Sign In page.
a. Enter your Username and temporary password to sign in
b. Reset your password by clicking on “Forgot password?”
a. Enter your email address
b. Click “Reset”
You will receive an e-mail with instructions to reset your password.

Certara.AI Signal is a tool for monitoring trends, identifying market needs, discovering emerging technologies, and streamlining competitor intelligence. You can generate real-time dashboards using Signal's trend analytics and named entity recognition, and gain insights from highly visual charts and graphs. Additionally, Certara.AI offers a reference data fabric add-on, which includes publicly available content from sources such as preprints, PubMed, clinical trials, and more.

Understanding the Certara.AI Signal Layout
The Certara.AI Signal UI is divided into four main sections, each serving a specific function. The left-hand panel is where you can manage the terms you have selected. The top bar is the Title Bar which displays the name of the set that you are working with. In the central section, you can view the results of your search. The right-hand panel enables you to filter the documents, organize and review your favorite documents, and explore concepts in detail.
Terms
The left-hand section of Signal is where you will manage terms for your collection. You can add terms, find related terms, rename terms, or delete terms. You can also sort the terms and update the trend view.
Title Bar
The top bar is the "Title Bar" which displays the name of the set that you are working with. You can create, rename, delete, or select a set of terms. You can also navigate to other applications and configure notification settings.
Results
The "Results" section provides the opportunity to review the articles for the terms selected and applied filters. Click to launch the articles in a separate tab, view, analyze, and add terms all within the results section.
Right-Hand Panel
Tabs right-hand panel includes a Filters tab that enables you to drill down by Keyword(s), DATA SOURCE, DATE, DOCUMENT TYPE, and ADDED BY. The Favorites tab includes all of the favorited documents. Lastly, the Concept Detail tab enables you to view the trends, related concepts, and documents for a selected term.
How to Create, Rename, or Delete a Set
Creating sets is an efficient way to organize and manage terms of interest.
You can create a set in one of two ways.
Create a set with a specific set of terms.
Create a set with Trending Terms.
Create a Set with Terms
Log into Certara.AI Signal
Click on the three vertical dots in the top toolbar
Select Create Set
In the Create Set modal, enter a name for the Set
Pre-populate set with: should be left at the default selection of "Terms Below"
Enter terms into the field under TERMS and ensure that you type or paste one term per line
Click Create Set
Create a Set of Trending Terms
Log into Certara.AI Signal
Click on the three vertical dots in the top toolbar
Select Create Set
In the Create Set modal, enter a name for the Set
Pre-populate set with: Trending Terms
Select a TIME INTERVAL from the dropdown menu
Select a DATA SOURCE from the dropdown menu
Select the box next to each desired term or click on the Select Top 10 or Select Top 50 button
Click Create Set
Rename Set
Log into Certara.AI Signal
Click on the three vertical dots in the top toolbar
Select Rename Set
Enter a new name in the free text field, then click on the Rename Set button
Delete Set
Log into Certara.AI Signal
Click on the three vertical dots in the top toolbar
Select Delete Set
Confirm that you are sure you'd like to delete the set by clicking on the Delete button
🛑 This action will delete the currently selected set.
Working with Terms in Signal
Signal allows for modifications to the terms to achieve desired outcomes. You can review steps on how to create a set in the following article:
Select
Select a term or multiple terms from a set to limit the documents in the Results section to only the terms of interest.
Here is an example of the results when all terms in this set are selected. By default, all terms are selected.
Here is an example where there are a few terms from the set selected for review.
CLEAR SELECTION
A "CLEAR SELECTION" option at the top left of the terms allows a quick reset to the default selection of all terms.
Rename
Change the display name of a term listed to something else.
Delete
Easily delete unwanted terms by clicking "Delete Term". Keep in mind that the term will be immediately removed.
Add
Add a new term by clicking on the plus sign (+), add a term to the Add Terms modal, and then click Add.
Concept Popovers
Click on a term to launch the Concept popover modal where you can quickly add terms to a set or a new set.
Trending Terms
To add trending terms to an existing set, click on the flame icon.
Sort
Click on the three vertical dots in the left-hand panel to access the menu to sort terms alphabetically, by usage, or trend.
Update Trends
The trend for each term is displayed in the term bar.
The trend timeframe is displayed above the terms.
Change the timeframe for the trend of each term by clicking on the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the left-hand terms panel, scroll down to Showing: Trend, and then select one of the menu options.
Signal - Results
Create your set as outlined here in the following article:
Review articles for the terms selected in your set in the "Results" section.
Launch Article
Click on the Blue article title to launch the article in a new tab.
View Options
Click on the three vertical dots in the top right section of the Results View to launch the menu. Under "View Options", select your view options. Show Authors, Show Abstracts, and Show Evidence are selected by default.
Concept Highlighting
Click on the three vertical dots in the top right section of the Results View to launch the menu. Under Concept Highlighting, select or de-select concepts.
Collapse Side Panels
Click on the panel icon on either side of the Results view to collapse the side panels.
Collapse the right-hand panel by clicking on the x at the top right-hand corner.
Concept Popovers
Click on a term to launch the Concept popover modal where you can quickly add terms to a set or a new set.
Signal - Filter Tab
The "Filters" tab enables you to drill down by Keyword(s), DATA SOURCE, DATE, DOCUMENT TYPE, and ADDED BY.
SEARCH
The free-text search field supports filtering by keyword(s). To find the documents you are looking for, simply enter the relevant keyword(s) in the search field under the "Filters" tab. For more information on how to refine your search, check out our article Boolean Operators in Layar.
DATA SOURCE
You can filter by "DATA SOURCE" by clicking to select one or many or SELECT ALL.
DATE
The sliding bar facilitates filtering the DATE by year.
CONNECTOR
The "CONNECTOR" picklist allows the selection of connectors. This menu will only be visible if any of the documents in the results section were added with a connector.
DOCUMENT TYPE
The "DOCUMENT TYPE" pickist facilitates the selection of the preferred document format.
ADDED BY
The "ADDED BY" picklist menu allows you to filter your results by user.
Signal - Favorites
The "Favorites" tab facilitates the review of all favorited articles in one place.
Click on "♡ Favorite" in the top left corner of the article to save an article in the Favorites tab.
An article selected as a favorite will have "🩶 Favorited" at the top left corner of the article.
View Options
The "View Options" menu is available within favorites to select your view options and concept highlighting.
Signal - Concept Detail
The "Concept Detail" tab enables you to view the trends, related concepts, and documents for a selected term.
Concept
Highlighted terms in the documents in the "Results" section are concepts that can be selected and viewed in detail in the "Concept Detail" tab.
Trend
Trend information for selected concepts can be viewed in the "Concept Detail" tab.
Related Concepts
The "Related Concepts" section displays the concept type and document count related to the selected term.
Documents
The "Documents Section" lists all documents found with the selected term. The "View Options" menu is also available within the "Concept Detail" tab to select your desired view options and concept highlighting.
Signal - Notification Settings
With Signal, you can set up notifications to alert you whenever new documents are added to a set.
Click on the bell icon in the top right section of the Signal UI to launch the "Notification Settings" modal.
Under "USER" is the username and email to which the notifications will be sent.
Under "SET" displays the specific set you will receive the notifications for.
"FREQUENCY" enables you to choose how often you would like to receive notifications.
