In this article, we'll walk through the steps to attach a document to a prompt, select specific sections of interest, summarize your selection, and ask questions. In addition, it will go over how to use the "Process Large Document" workflow, which is recommended asking general questions against large documents or sets.

Before starting, please add the document(s) to the "Sources" Pane. Review the instructions in the following article, "How to Add a Document", to accomplish this. Once you have successfully added your document(s), attach the document to the prompt and start interacting with the model.

Attach to Prompt

  1. Add the document(s) to the "Sources" Pane

  2. Click on the three dots

  3. Select "Attach to Prompt"

The document attached to the prompt will be displayed in the Attachments window.

Once the document is attached to the prompt, you can summarize the attachments or ask a question.

Add Specific Sections

Instead of adding the entire document, you can add specific sections of interest to the prompt to summarize.

  1. Once the document(s) is added to the "Sources Pane", click on the document to open it

  2. Use the search feature by clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the toolbar

  3. Enter a "keyword" to search the document, then hit enter or return to highlight the keyword in the document

  4. Highlight the section(s) of interest, then click on "Attach to Prompt"

View the new sections added in the Attachments box. Each segment displays a portion of the document’s title and the character count.

  5. Select "Summarize Attachments"

Once the model completes the summarization of the attachment, the summary will be available for review in the "Conversation Pane". The attachment used for the summarization is also included with the response.

Summarize Custom Text

Summarize Custom Text with the "Summarize Text" option.

Ask a Question

Review the "Tips for Natural Language Question Answering" to formulate a specific question that avoids ambiguity and yields a clear answer from the model.

  1. Once the document(s) is attached to the prompt, type a question in the "Question" Pane

  2. Click Submit

View the response from the model in the "Conversations" Pane.

Retry

If the results are not satisfactory, you can "Try Again".

  1. In the "Conversation Pane", for the output that you are not satisfied with, click on the three vertical dots a that the top right corner of the conversation

  2. Select "Try Again"

You will see a blue box around the Question box and the conversation you are retrying

  3. Click "Retry"

Process Large Document

When using a document or set that is too large, users will get an error “context window exceeded”. In these instances, they will want to utilize this feature. Users must first attach the document or set and then click the “Process Large Document” button. This will bring up a second window.

The user can choose from two tasks, “summarize” or “custom”. Summarize will be used when you want to summarize large documents. Custom, will be used when you want to do anything other than summarize.

When using summarize, the instruction prompts will be filled out automatically. Custom will require the user to implement both instruction prompts.

“Instructions for each section” requires the user to input what they want to find for each section of the document. For example, “Give me all findings in the audit in regards to AI”.

“Final Instructions” requires the user to input the final prompt that will be used to bring the results together. For example, “Take the audits findings on AI and five me suggestions on guardrails that need to be implemented in our workflow.”
