Understanding the Certara.AI Layar Layout
The Certara.AI Layar user interface (UI) comprises three distinct sections, each serving a specific function. The left-hand pane is designated for content management while the central section serves as the results space. The top bar is the primary location for conducting searches within Layar and selecting or modifying the Data Fabric.
Content Management
In the left-hand pane, there are several options available to the user. These options include the ability to add images or documents to the Data Catalog, add connectors, create new projects or sets, and ask questions. By utilizing these features, users can manage their data more efficiently and streamline their workflow. The left-hand pane provides quick and easy access to these essential tools, ensuring that users can complete their tasks with ease and efficiency.
Data Catalog
The Data Catalog shows the various types of content available within a selected Data Fabric. The results section displays all content, but filtering options are available to facilitate a more focused approach. For instance, specific content types such as images, documents, tables, or ontologies can be selected by clicking on the options provided. Furthermore, the plus button enables the incorporation of new data from different sources.
Connectors
The Connectors provide access to a variety of data source locations that extend beyond the Reference Data Fabric. These sources include websites, S3 buckets, relational databases, and local data among others. Adding new data connectors can be initiated by clicking on the plus button.
It is worth noting that these connectors play a crucial role in enabling Layar to access data sources that exist outside the Reference Data Fabric. This, in turn, enhances the platform's ability to provide comprehensive information to users.
The connectors available on Layar are diverse and capable of handling different types of data sources. They are designed to ensure that the data obtained is accurate, reliable, and up-to-date.

Projects
The Projects section allows you to retrieve the outcomes of various AI operations performed within your instance. Sets
The Sets feature enables users to collate a collection of documents that can be distributed effortlessly among multiple individuals. This functionality is particularly useful in professional or academic settings where there is a need to share information among a group of people. By grouping documents, Sets provides an efficient and streamlined method of sharing information, as opposed to sending individual documents separately. This feature can be a valuable asset for teams that need to collaborate on projects or assignments, as it reduces the time and effort required to share information.
Questions
The questions section lists the questions you have entered into the Layar Search field. The platform is capable of processing natural language inquiries without requiring the user to author a code or query. The system can respond to a range of questions, such as "What are the diseases linked with the protein TYK2?" and provide a prompt and informative answer. This feature streamlines the search process by allowing users to access data through natural language queries, simplifying the search experience and increasing the speed and efficiency of data retrieval.
Top Bar
The top bar includes the application navigator, links to end-user and developer documentation, request support, and a product tour. There is also a search bar that enables keyword and Boolean searches, and a data fabric selector to refine search results.
The Layar Icon
The Layar icon allows users to conceal the left-hand menu, which includes the Application Navigator and the Content Management Items, thereby expanding the Results Space.
Application Navigator
The Application Navigator Button is a valuable feature that facilitates navigation between different Certara.AI applications. This functionality allows users to switch between distinct Certara.AI software applications seamlessly. Ellipsis (Next to the Application button)
The ellipsis symbol serves as a gateway to a menu that provides access to various features, including but not limited to documentation, support, product tour, and logout. This menu enables users to explore and navigate these features with ease and convenience.
Search Bar
The Search Bar is where you can search for documents using keywords or Boolean search.
Data Fabric Selector
This feature enables you to refine your search results by narrowing down the sources of information. By utilizing this button, you can limit your search to a specific source, ensuring that the results are more relevant to your information needs.
Initial Icon
The icon situated at the upper-right corner of the screen, with your initials, provides access to a menu that presents three options: inviting users (if you are an admin), managing your account, and logging out.
View Changer Button
The View Changer Button allows users to alternate between two distinct modes of display, namely a list view and a grid view. The latter offers users a preview of the content in image format. This feature can be accessed by clicking on the View Changer Button, which is located within the interface.
Ellipsis (Nested between the View Changer and Filter Button)
This button serves the purpose of adding all the resultant documents into either an existing or a new set. Its functionality is designed to enhance the user experience by providing a seamless, one-click approach to document management. This feature allows users to easily group and organize their documents, improving accessibility and workflow.
Filter Button
The Filter button is a feature that enables users to refine their search results using various metadata categories such as Data Sources, Data Type, Document Type, Connector, Added by, Date Added, and Content Type. This feature allows users to efficiently navigate the search results by narrowing down their focus to specific categories of interest. The Filter Button is a vital tool in the search process, as it facilitates the efficient identification of relevant information and enhances the overall research experience.
Results Space
The Results Space serves as the primary workspace within Layar. It facilitates the display of content that conforms to your search parameters.
What is a Data Fabric?
In the Certara.AI platform, a data fabric is a powerful connectivity framework that enables organizations to integrate both internal and external data sources without the need to move or replicate files. This framework, which provides the foundation for the capabilities of Layar and other Certara.AI applications, creates an index of connected data that users can then run targeted AI-based workflows against to extract insight or prepare analyses. This centralized infrastructure can help organizations overcome the challenges of data integration, management, and analysis.

How Do I Connect My Data?
Certara.AI can seamlessly connect with any data source, regardless of file format, whether on-premise or cloud-based.
Connect Data to Layar
To complete this task with ease, simply follow the steps provided.
Click on the "+" button in the Connectors section of the Layar homepage
From the "Add Data To Layer" window, select the data source you would like to add
Input the required fields to authorize the connection
Click Start Sourcing to import the data
Once the connection is successful, you will see a popup indicating that the feed has been initialized.
After connecting, Layar will tag and catalog your data, which becomes visible as indexing proceeds.
How Do I Add Documents?
Certara.AI enables users to upload data to Layar, regardless of the file type and whether it is cloud-based or on-premise.
Drag and Drop
1. Open up your local folder
2. Drag and drop a file from the folder to the Layar Homepage
You will see a popup at the bottom right-hand corner indicating the upload was successful
Local and Cloud-based File Upload
Upload local and cloud-based documents with the following steps:
Click on the +plus sign next to Data Catalog or Connectors to launch the Add Data To Layar popup.
Select a source location to upload the document from
Enter the connector information or just navigate to your Local File and select a file to upload.
You will see an indicator in the left-hand panel once the document upload is completed.
Deleting a Document
Delete a document with the following steps:
Click on Documents
Click on the “check box” next to the document
Click on the "Selected" button to reveal a menu, then select “Delete”
You'll be prompted with a window to confirm that you'd like to delete the selected document. Click on the “delete” button
How Do I Create Sets?
Sets are a great tool for organizing data in a team setting. They can be customized and shared amongst team members, providing an efficient means of data management for research and analysis.
Creating Sets
This process can be accomplished effortlessly, by following three simple steps.
1. Click on the "+" button in the Sets section of the Layar homepage
2. From the "Create Set" window, Enter a Name
3. Click “Create” to create the set
Add To Set
Add a document to a set with the following steps:
1. Under “Data Catalog”, click on “Documents”
2. Select the document by clicking the check box next to the document
3. Click on the “Selected” button to reveal a menu, then select “Add To Set”
4. In the “Add To Set” window, select the checkbox next to the set you would like to add the document to an existing set or you can click on the “Create New Set” button if you would like to create a new set, then click “Add”.
Deleting a Set
Delete a set with the following steps:
1. Click on “Sets” or “More…”
You will see the Sets listed in the display in the Results space
2. Select the set by clicking the check box next to the set name
3. Click on the "Selected" button to reveal a Delete button
You will be presented with a window to confirm that you want to remove the selected set.
4. Click the Delete button
Deleting Data from a Set
Delete data from a set with the following steps:
1. Click on the set
2. Select an item listed in the set or select the box next to "PREVIEW" to select all
3. Click on the "Selected" button to reveal a button to “Remove From Set”

Understanding Named Entity Recognition
Named Entity Recognition (NER) is a subdomain of deep learning text analytics that involves showing terms and phrases within unstructured text and classifying them into categorical types, or entities. These entities can include proteins, cell lines, diseases, companies, and more. At Certara.AI, we use NER tagging to create NER Concepts, which are present in all our application interfaces.
In the context of Layar, we automatically apply NER tagging to all text connected to the platform, including articles, PDFs, spreadsheets, RSS feeds, and other data with available text. You can view these tags by selecting a single document or piece of data and accessing the Document View.

Boolean Operators in Layar Search
Boolean operators are search tools that allow you to provide specific limits on the types of results returned to you. If you’ve ever Googled something, you have already used Boolean searches. Even if you’ve used it without realizing it, you can learn a few Boolean operators that will drastically improve your search results.
AND
Narrows your search results to include only relevant results that contain your required keywords (e.g. “Alzheimer’s" AND “target” will only yield documents that have both of those keywords).
OR
Expands your search results so all results must contain at least one, if not more, of your defined keywords or phrases. OR is useful for two scenarios: (1) you need to include all synonyms for a given title, phrase or word (e.g. interleukin-1 OR IL-1 OR IL1), or (2) creating a list of all possibilities where you only need at least one of the keywords to be returned (e.g. Merck OR Pfizer OR Novartis).
NOT
Limits your search by excluding defined keywords and/or phrases from your results (e.g. drug NOT vitamin reveals all results that discuss drugs, excluding those that also mention "vitamin").
"Quotation Marks"
Use quotes around a phrase that needs to be returned in that exact order. For example, "United States of America" will yield results with that exact term, but without quotes, each word in the phrase will be treated separately, as if you used OR between each word (United OR States OR of OR America).
(Parenthesis)
Parentheses are used to give priority to the keywords contained within over the other elements around it. As a rule of thumb, parentheses should be used around OR statements, ensuring the search engine properly resolves the OR statement before moving on to other operators. For example, (Tumor OR Carcinoma OR Cancer) AND treatment will yield results that mention treatment and any one or several of the key terms in parenthesis.
Asterisks “*”
* on a term matches multiple characters preceding a stem. For example, hydroxych* yields results for hydroxychloroquine, hydroxycholesterol, etc.
Question Mark “?”
? on a term that matches a single character preceding a stem. For example, a?duction can yield results for abduction and adduction. Another example can be anemi? to find results for anemia and anemic.
Google Cloud Storage (GCS) Bucket
1. Log in and navigate to your “Layar Home Page”.
2. Click on the '+' icon to the right of the "Connections" section, located in the navigation menu on the left-hand side of the page
3. Select the “Google Cloud Storage” option

5. Click “Start Importing”

Table Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) in Layar
Table Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) allows Layar users to query uploaded tabular data using LLM.
For example, this table contains a description of a database schema with table names and table descriptions.
1. Upload the table into Layar
2. Click on the upload table to see the details
3. Select “Create Embeddings” from the three-dot menu in the upper right-hand corner
A progress bar will appear
When the embedding creation is complete, it will say Embeddings Exist
4. Navigate to “Composer”
5. Search for the table in the Sources panel and attach it to the prompt
6. Ask a question
The LLM will use the data in the rows of the table to be able to properly extract an answer relevant to your question.
