The CoAuthor Word Add-in now helps you stay oriented as you move through long documents. When your cursor lands inside a CoAuthor content control — either a Prompt or a Data Section — the add-in either jumps straight to that item in the list or shows a footer notification you can use to open it in one click. A new History dropdown also keeps track of the prompts and data sections you've recently visited.
Getting Started
Open the Word document that contains your CoAuthor content controls.
The add-in pane appears on the right side of Word with three tabs:
Prompts — list of all prompt content controls
Data Sections — list of all data section content controls
Settings — add-in configuration
At the bottom of the pane, you'll see two new controls:
The Cursor Location Nudge (appears only when needed)
The History ▼ button
Cursor‑Location Nudge Notification
When your cursor lands inside a content control that isn't currently displayed in the active tab, a notification appears in the add-in footer.
What You'll See
The footer displays:
Cursor in: [Title] (Prompt/Data Section) [Go]
[Title] — the title of the content control your cursor is inside.
(Prompt/Data Section) — indicates which type of content control it is.
[Go] — switches to the appropriate tab and opens the item's detail view.
How to Use the Nudge
Click anywhere inside a CoAuthor prompt or data section content control in your document.
In the add-in footer, click Go.
The add-in switches to the correct tab (if needed) and opens the detail view for that item.
Visual Behavior
A yellow highlight animation runs when the nudge first appears or changes to a new item.
The nudge fades out when your cursor moves away from any content control.
Note: If you are already viewing the list for that content type, no nudge appears. Instead, the matching item is automatically scrolled into view and highlighted.
Navigation History
The History button in the add-in footer keeps a list of the prompts and data sections you've recently visited, so you can return to earlier work without searching.
Opening History
Click the History ▼ button at the bottom of the pane.
A dropdown opens showing your recent entries.
What's recorded
An entry is added to history every time you:
Move your cursor into a prompt or data section content control, or
Click Go from a cursor nudge.
How History Behaves
Order: Newest entries appear at the bottom (bottom-up order).
Capacity: Up to 100 entries — older items are discarded automatically.
Auto-scroll: When the dropdown is open and a new entry is added, the list scrolls to the bottom so the latest item stays in view.
Title refresh: Titles refresh each time you open the dropdown, so renamed items display their current name.
Persistence
History is saved inside your Word document using Custom XML Parts, so it survives closing and reopening Word and travels with the file.
Deleted Items
If an entry has been removed from the document since it was added to history, it appears with:
Red styling
Strikethrough text
A non-clickable "deleted" label
Clearing History
Click the Clear button in the History dropdown to reset history. All stored entries are removed.
