Get Formatted Answers from CoAuthor

K
Written by Kay Chen

CoAuthor now supports formatted answers—so when you ask a question or use a prompt, your response can include:

  • Bold text

  • Italic text

  • Underlined text

  • Strikethrough

  • Superscript (like 2⁵)

  • Subscript (like H₂O)

This makes your answers easier to read, more professional, and ready to copy into documents or presentations without extra editing.

Where Does Formatting Work?

You’ll see formatting in two places:

1. CoAuthor Chat

When you ask a question in the CoAuthor chat interface (either in the portal or the Word add-in), the response will now include formatting automatically.

Example:

This is bold, this is italic, and this is underlined.

2. Prompt Responses (Insert into Word)

When you use a Prompt and insert the response into your Word document, the formatting will carry over—so bold, italic, underline, and more will appear just as expected.

How to Use It

You don’t need to do anything special—just ask your question or write your prompt as usual. CoAuthor will take care of the formatting for you.

Example Prompt:

“Write a summary of Newton’s Laws with key terms in bold and formulas in subscript.”

Result:

Newton’s First Law states that an object in motion stays in motion...
Force is calculated as F = m·a, where m is mass and a is acceleration.
Water is written as H₂O.

  • If you copy and paste from CoAuthor into another app, formatting may vary depending on the app’s support for rich text or HTML.
