Once you have created your CoAuthor document, you will be guided to open Word and begin writing. Open the CoAuthor add-in to begin working with CoAuthor in Word! With Word open, enable your CoAuthor Add-in from the Add-ins list.
AI disclaimer
CoAuthor is powered by AI. Hovering your mouse over the AI icon reminds you that responses can contain mistakes:
The four tabs
Within the CoAuthor Add-in you have four tabs to always work with.
1. Prompts – Lists out all prompts are in your document, where you can add new prompts, generate prompts, reuse existing prompts, and most importantly generate your CoAuthor content.
2. Attributes – Insert your defined attribute values throughout your document.
3. Sources – Reuse source content from your sources into your document.
4. AI Chat – Interact with the CoAuthor chat interface at any time during the authoring process.
First-use AI notice
The first time you actively engage CoAuthor's AI, a one-time notice appears:
Click Acknowledge to dismiss it. The notice will not appear again on later interactions.
How it behaves
When it appears – On your first active AI engagement — not on login, opening a document, or navigating between tabs.
Non-blocking – The underlying generation or chat action proceeds normally. You can acknowledge the notice, dismiss it, or ignore it without interrupting your work.
One acknowledgment, everywhere – A single dismissal in the add-in suppresses the notice across all CoAuthor AI surfaces — Prompts, AI Chat, and generation.
Only once – After you acknowledge, the notice does not appear again in this session, in future sessions, or on any other device.
